Small Aros mask, Bronze
22 x 11 mm
Several stone with carved "masks" have been found from the Viking era, and one of the most famed is the Aros mask, which now stands in the Moesgaard Museum near Århus, Denmark.
This pendant is inspired by this very mask. The meaning is up to interpretations, as we know very little about these carvings, but there is little doubt that it symbolises a powerful being. Many believe this specific stone depicted Odin, or his fearsome aspect of war.
Often referred to as a Godmask or Grylemask
